  • Start with a new image on a white background
  • Create a new layer (SHIFT+CTRL + N)
  • Enter quick mask mode (Q)
  • You need to make a selection by either making a shape or using the type tool
  • If you make want to use a shape:
  • Make a selection with any marquee tool
  • Invert that selection (CTRL + SHIFT + I),
  • Fill it with black by using the paintbucket tool
  • If you want to use text
  • Select the type tool and make sure the text color is black
  • Now deselect the selection (CTRL + D) and invert the colors (CTRL + I)
  • You should see pink background and your shape or text should be white
  • Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur (8 px)
  • Filter>Pixelate>Color Halftone (default settings)
  • Return to normal mode by pressing Q and you should see a selection
  • Fill that selection with whatever color you want on the new layer with the paintbucket tool
