PLASTIC EFFECT

Learn how to create plastic looking text or images


  • Create a new image (800 x 800 px)
  • Select a foreground color (more effective with bright colors)
  • Draw an image or enter a text
  • Add a layer style to your image or text
  • Right-Click the layer, Blending Options..., Select Inner Shadow (use the following settings)
  • Make a selection of the image (CTRL-Click on the image layer)
  • Now go to the channels palette
  • Add a new Channel of the selection (Add new channel and paste image)
  • Gaussian blur the channel Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur (12 px)\
  • Inverse the selection and hit delete (Black background in the color palette)
  • Return to the image layer in the layers palette
  • CTRL-Click the image layer
  • Ceate a new layer and fill the highlighted selection with black
  • Add a lighting effects filter Filters>Render>Lighting Effects (use the following settings)
  • Gaussian blur the layer Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur (2 px)
  • Add a layer style to your image or text
  • Change the layer mode to Color Dodge and reduce the Opacity to 17
  • Duplicate that same layer and change the layer mode to screen
  • You now have a plastic looking image
  • The settings I used worked well with my image
  • Play around with the settings to get optimal designs on your image or text
